Great page John, solved my hair pulling out also..
Just like Damon, I am also now getting a bit more adventurous and looking to see if we can map drop downs as this would help a few areas be more consistant.

Just getting Syntax errors when trying the above solution..

I have something similar working for text forecolor.. But it doesnt seem to work on iPhone. Has anyone else noticed the problem? iPad seems fine.

This is not applicable for ActiveX Droplist. Cannot repeat the content. Properties are different compare to normal Field Text.
Any guidance for this please?

I use ActiveX Dropdown list. I want the selected list to be displayed again in other section on the same page. For example the Dropdown list is having Student,Teacher,Admin and I choose Student. I want the work Student to appear again automatically on the same page (maybe in otther column)

Hi John,

Great information. Do you know if it is possible to map a drop-down menu to values entered in the form?

Ultimately, I’d like to be able to map the values in the form to SharePoint or vice-versa via the Information Document Panel, although I’m not sure if this is possible. I know I could use InfoPath, but we like the flexibility that Word gives us.

I am so glad I found this link. I have been trying to figure out how to get the start dates in my itinerary to appear on both the cover page and the first day heading. Thanks to you, I think that’s finally achievable! I’m still stuck on the second half of this project though. Now I need to get the rest of the day headings to pre-populate, based on that start date. (If Day 1 = Jan. 22, 2012, Day 2 = Jan. 23, 2012, etc.) Do you happen to know how to do that?

Hi Deb,

No solution as yet. My client is now experiencing issues with the current ‘hack’ solution we went with intially as they are using Nintex workflows on the lists and updating the files post initial save is upsetting the workflows. This has brought the issue to the fore once more so I am trying again to find a solution. I will let you know if I manage to solve it.

I was trying to implement this example in my project and have some problems. Could you please help me by any chance? I am using the datasource and databind method to fill my gridview with data. Does it mean I can’t use your technique?

my code is:

grdProjects.DataBind();
grdProjects.RowDataBound += new GridViewRowEventHandler(grdProjects_RowDataBound);

but the grdProjects_RowDataBound is not being fired

Your REST based service is very RESTful if it isn’t using GET for READING DATA.

I can see that using a POST might be desirable to post to another server and make sure the Proxy follows any redirects for you.

You can package your custom 2007 solution into a WSP solution. Microsoft didn’t provide any tools to do it automatically like they did for 2010, however there are some CodePlex projects for building WSP packages. Here is one: http://wspbuilder.codeplex.com/.

I think the issue you came across comes up if you manually deploy the DLL to the servers using the GACUTIL as you mentioned. Deploying a WSP package instead forces all of the appropriate caches to be cleared.

If you use Visual Studio 2010 to create a SharePoint 2010 solution and packaging the solution as a .WSP, you shouldn’t have this issue when you deploy as SharePoint handles all of that when deploying the .WSP solution file.

One thing I feel it might be important to highlight – and if this is redundant for 2010 please let me know – but if you recompile the dll, simply using GACUTIL and deactivating and re-activating the job won’t suffice. You have to execute net stop sptimerv4 and net start sptimerv4 at the command line to clear down the cache. It took me hours to figure that out so just thought I’d save your readers some pain!

I hadn’t tried Chrome on the Mac. It is possible that the Mac version behaves slightly different than the PC version with the scrollbar issue.

Thanks for the tip about the scroll=no attribute. Using Chrome on the Mac, the lack of scrollbars was driving me crazy. When I found that our Sharepoint administrator had no interest in making the appropriate customization, I did some more experimenting. I found that in my case it was the Flashblock extension that was causing the problem. Disabling it brings the scrollbars back, but you can also just use the Flashblock options to add the Sharepoint site to its white list.

Mike Sullivan, Did you ever find a solution to your Excel Load to Sharepoint with required ContentTypeProperties issue? I am trying to do the same, using VBA to load an Excel file to a Sharepoint list that has required ContentTypeProperties. I setup the “Network Place” and can use it to save to – but need to pass the required properties. Using Excel 2007 (xlsm) which is supposed to only be able to load read-only files, but that is not a problem. I’m hoping you found an answer. Deb

I need to create a custom action under site action menu using Sandbox solution.
In code , we have some other requirement so we are trying to override the createchildcontrol() method.
MenuItem template is not supported in Sandbox .searching for some replacement for Menuitem template class.

Nice Powershell stuff. What you actually have forgotten to mention is that direct SQL Queries to a SharePoint Content Database are not supported by Microsoft and can have impact on the performance of the server.
When this should be used in an application the Author property of SPList Object should be used.

Thanks this proxy works great, except for images. Any image that is requested will not show in a browser due to “The image … cannot be displayed because it contains errors.” If I request an image and then request it via the proxy the first request returns fine and the 2nd returns this error message. Any suggestions? In case you are wondering I do have a valid case for requesting images – I’m performance testing mapping services via ajax

Hi John,

Thanks so much for your post, i have successfully created a bunched of content controls in my Word template.

However i have got this message, whenever i reopen my Word file: The Document Information Panel was unable to load. The document will continue to open. For more information, contact your system administrator.”

And when i try to use the funtion ‘locate the content controls in actrual word document’ in the Content Control Tookit, i also got this error message “Unhandeled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this erroe and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. Call was rejected by callee. (Exception from HRESULT: 0×80010001 (RPC_E_CALL_REJECTED)).”

Do you have any idea how to get rid of these error messages?

Unfortunately, that’s not possible. This behavior is 100% client-side and is controlled by the local installation of Microsoft Office.

The property is an array and it seems difficult to specify array names with a string variable from VB from VB
